NBA’s reportedly partnering with Wilson Sporting Goods after 37-year relationship with Spalding.
Spalding has provided NBA with their official game ball for 37 years, and that has come to an end. Wilson Sporting Goods is now taking over with the Evolution Game Ball, so we wanted to look into who Wilson’s sponsors are.
Wilson was founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1913 under Ashland Manufacturing Company and have made their name in sports, including tennis, golf, baseball, football and many more. Wilson actuallly manufactured the first official game ball for NBA in 1946.
Currently, they are extremely popular for their tennis racquets, golf clubs — but have continued to show their leadership in sports by providing official game balls for AVP and NFL.
Wilson famously sponsors tennis players Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Serena and Venus Williams and many others. For baseball, Mookie Betts, Clayton Kershaw represent the sporting powerhouse.
It’s interesting to see the announcement of the partnership come out right now, since NBA’s season is still suspended. Sacramento Kings reportedly returned to the practice facility on Tuesday as NBA nears a possible return after the COVID-19 shutdown.
I wonder what Dennis Rodman thinks about this?
