Want to step up your plant game? We got you!
Plant Man P, based out of Los Angeles, along with his partner in crime, Plant Lady P, both have deep knowledge about plants. We were able to chop it up with Plant Man P about how he got started and some tips and advice for anyone that wants to get into the plant game! Check out the interview below!
What/who inspired you to get into plants?
Lowkey my dad. He always had all types of cactus and euphorbia’s laying around the house and the yard and I liked them because he liked them but once I started getting into them myself, I grew heavy into the passion and understood why he had them.
Do you have a daily/weekly routine for upkeeping your plants?
Every morning (during quarantine) I check on all the homies. I come outside on my balcony and check on the Balcony Boyz and see if there’s debris or spider webs or anything like that that needs attention. I also do some rearranging if necessary. As for houseplants, the ones we have don’t need much attention aside from good lighting and water.
Where do you usually get your plants from?
Anywhere in the Los Angeles area, really. Houseplants, I go to Mickey’s, The Sill, Wyldbnch, Rainbow. For cacti, I got a few spots like Mezcala or Desert Creations.
What are some good starter plants for someone that wants to slowly get into the game?
I’d highly recommend Monsteras or snake plants for any beginner. Both are dope and easy to maintain. Snake plants are good for spots that don’t have the brightest of light and doesn’t need much watering. They also serve as an air purifier. Monstera’s grow super fast and will boost up your plant confidence.
Any tips or advice for someone new?
Do not overwater. Plants need less water than you think. Stick your finger in the soil and feel if it’s dry or wet. If you don’t like getting messy, purchase a water meter stick. Truly helpful tool to keep your plants from being overwatered. For all other advice, check out our YouTube channel. A lot of good information on there for anyone on any level of plants.
