Want to learn drawing techniques directly from Lauren Tsai?
Former “Terrace House” star Lauren Tsai joined Marc Jacobs’ weekly Instagram Live drawing session, “Drawn Together,” where she documented her drawing step-by-step. This was actually not the first time Marc and Lauren worked together. Back in 2018, they collaborated on a collection ranging from purses, wallets and apparel.
Many of you know her from the Netflix reality show as well as “Legion” on FX … but aside from TV appearances, she is also a respected artist. In this week’s live segment, Tsai showcases her talent and teaches us one of her many styles of art.
As Lauren walked her live viewers through her detailed work, she provided insight on why she finds this drawing style relaxing. She started by saying that working on a piece of art can often be stressful due to the high expectations and standards you set for yourself — but ended her statement on a positive note with … “I feel like drawing with these pens and drawing in this style is a nice way to exhale everything you’ve been feeling during the day and just get very present and focus on the image and the paper in front of you to not feel so worried about where you’re going to end up.”
One of the perks she mentions about this style during the tutorial is that you can’t predict what it’s going to look like, allowing you to capture “what you want to in a very free style.” She even used this type of drawing for her portfolio when she was applying to art colleges.
Due to everyone feeling uneasy during these unprecedented times as we battle through the coronavirus pandemic, she wanted to share some positive words by saying … “there’s always going to be people that hate you, and I think that is more of a reflection of how they are and how they feel about talking to people and how to treat people, so that shouldn’t get in the way of you doing what you want. So hopefully you can be kind and patient with yourself when you’re drawing.”
If you were wondering what pen the former “Terrace House” star was using, according to Marc Jacobs’ IG caption, her favorite pens are made by TUL and, in fact, TUL pens were used for these drawings.
Marc Jacobs has teamed up with various artists for its “Drawn Together” series, including fashion editor Jenny M Walton, French jewelry designer, Elie Top and Creative Director for Esteé Lauder Companies, Donald Robertson, to name a few.
As we are on a “Terrace House”-related topic, we wanted finish this post by sending our deepest condolescenes for the loss of Hana Kimura. RIP — 1997-2020.
