Swiss sign painter showcases his basektball-inspired art, and explains where he draws his motivation.
Serge Lowrider, a sign painter and screenprinter from Switzerland, has been working on his detailed art for decades, often getting inspiration from his love for basketball.
Serge, who is best known for being the founder of Lowrider Teeshirt, has had his own studio since 2000 and now distrbutes his art across various shops in Switzerland, France and Thailand. It’s amazing to see art and sports connect people from all over the world.
As shown in his screenprinting work — check out the gallery below — Serge is very passionate about both basketball and lettering, often combining the two, but he finds joy creating art based on what he sees while traveling, surfing, going to flea marekts, looking at vintage signage, and many more.
We were able to chat with him quickly where he shared a valuable advice with us — “PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT” — which we also thought was interesting because NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain once said, “They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they’d make up their minds.”
Serge finished his advice, by saying, “use your hand, a real pencil & paper, leave your iPad/computer for a while” … which actually is an important lesson in 2020 considering everyone is always glued to their phones and tablets.
