Want to know what inspired atmos’ Hirofumi Kojima and Sean Wotherspoon for their ASICS collab?
About a week out from the release of Sean Wotherspoon x atmos x ASICS Gel Lyte III, atmos’ creative director Hirofumi “Koji” Kojima walked his social media followers through the creative process and customizable features of the upcoming release.
For those of you who don’t know, atmos & ASICS collaborated for the first time in 2011, which also featured the same GEL-LYTE III sneaker. Koji wanted to use the same style for his collab with Sean to celebrate the shoe’s 30th anniversary along with atmos’ 20th anniversary.
The creative director goes on to explain that the right shoe represents Los Angeles — where Wotherspoon lives — and the left shoe represents Tokyo. They carefully rendered each shoe with certain colors that best reflected each of the cities.
The corduroy shoes will come with 5 different colors of interchangable ASICS logos, along with Sean Wotherspoon and atmos patches … allowing the wearer to customize their kicks depending on their fit.
He went on to reveal that there’s a “hidden message component” on all the shoes … encouraging the wearer to cut off the GEL logo on the heel.
The customizable sneaker will go on sale next Saturday 6/27, and only available through atmos-tokyo.com and Round Two.
atmos and Sean Wotherspoon will be selling tie dye shirts too, so make sure to check those out!
